Kerala is the most scenic and variegated tourist destination in India and attracts most vacationers from inside the country and abroad. With the rise in popularity of eco-tourism, genuine eco-friendly tourists who come to study and enjoy the unique ecological havens in Kerala are ever on the increase. Environmental conservation and sustainable development are the catch words not only among the host communities but also among the majority of the visitors. The backwaters in the state form a distinctive and matchless ecological phenomenon that has remained a pristine patch of unsullied nature despite decades of developmental onslaughts.
Storks, cormorants, kingfishers and other aquatic avifauna, endemic butterflies and moths in abundance and several varieties of fish including the tastiest large-sized karimeens (pearl spot) and prawns make the back waters a favorite haunt of the nature lover. Besides the coconut palms seen all over the area, hundreds of species of endemic plants, several varieties of spices, exotic flowers and different types of banana are seen in and around the resort.
